Our staff is highly professional and dedicated to our students. The role of a teacher at the DESU requires flexibility and a strong ability to liaise, negotiate and consult with a broad range of people. Teachers use their expertise in technology to provide creative and innovative programs. A sense of humour and adventure are handy on field trips.

DESU teachers have special education training and enormous expertise in many areas of special education, including intellectual disability, autism, behaviour management, reading recovery and the teaching of students with high support needs.

Ongoing professional development ensures that we stay up to date with current aspects of educational practice. While we focus particularly on training in special education, we endeavour to stay abreast of changes and trends in the wider educational field.
