Providing quality education for students with special needs
The Distance Education Support Unit (DESU) provides quality programs for students with an intellectual disability, who are unable to attend school in a face-to-face setting. We recognise that every one of our students is unique and requires a highly individualised program. Our professional, creative and talented team of special educators deliver innovative and flexible learning experiences tailored to students' specific needs in a range of learning environments. Using an extensive range of resources and technologies, students are often able to achieve beyond expectations. Our parent/tutors are essential to the success of our programs.
Whilst students do participate in their distance education programs in their home environment, it is not the same as 'home schooling'. Home schooling is an option available to all parents but they must develop their own educational programs for their children and it must be approved by the Board of Studies NSW. Distance Education is the educational service provided by the NSW Department of Education and Training for student who are geographically isolated or isolated by circumstances. The DESU is part of the Distance Education Network. You will find us located at Sir Eric Woodward School in the leafy northern Sydney suburb of St Ives. We invite you to explore our website to learn more about us. For more information, please contact us.
